Public Relations Writing
Writing for the press is a specialized field. As a former trade press editor, I know what works and what doesn’t. Learn how to write press releases and story pitches that WILL get the attention of the journalists.
A half–day course for writing, or a two half-day course for writing and verbal pitching.
Course Objectives
- Employees will gain greater insight into the way journalists think and work that will enable them to successfully write for members of the press
- Employees will improve press release writing skills that will result in higher placement rates
- Employees will become more adept at pitching stories to the press, both verbal and written
Day 1
- Understanding the media and journalists
- Basic principles of writing releases and pitch letters
- Assignment: write a press release and written pitch. Prepare verbal pitch for role playing.
Day 2
- Review of releases in class discussion
- Review of written pitches in class dicussion
- Role playing verbal pitches
